Residents in Tanzania's Mtwara region still hold many traditional beliefs. Visitors may hear the story of "Grandpa Livembe," a giant snake that protects the village of Nanguruwe. But doubters beware!

Reuters reports that Tanzanian billionaire Mohammed Dewji is home safe. This after his kidnappers freed him. Dewji was seized by gunmen outside a luxury hotel nine days ago.<br />police said that unknown gunmen snatched the 43-year-old on October 11 as he left his early morning workout in the commercial capital of Dar es Salaam.<br />Regional police commissioner Lazaro Mambosasa told reporters, he was found about 3:15 a.m. local time Saturday near a tennis court in the same city. Dewji attended the news conference in a white T-shirt and pants. He thanked police officers and shook their hands.<br />Police officials did not provide additional details on his release. <br />

Rescuers help survivors of a ferry that capsized and sank near the coast of Zanzibar on Wednesday, killing at least 31 people.<br/> <br />The ferry had left Tanzania around midday for Zanzibar, a popular tourist destination, with more than 250 passengers on board.<br/> <br />So far, at least 145 have been rescued but it is still not known how many have drowned.<br/> <br />Zanzibar's president Ali Mohamed Shein has declared three days of mourning and has called for national unity following the tragedy.<br/> <br />More than 200 people were killed when a crowded ferry sank in September last year, in the worst maritime disaster in Zanzibar's history.<br/> <br />Sarah Sheffer, Reuters
