Twenty years ago today the plane of Rwandan President Juvenal Habyarimana was shot down over Rwanda’s capital Kigali, killing him and everyone else on board.<br /><br />The event triggered the Rwanda genocide.<br /><br />Over the following 90 days between 500,000 and one million of Rwanda’s ethnic Tutsi minority, and Hutu moderates, were killed by members of the Hutu majority.<br /><br />The genocide and civil war prompted a regional refugee crisis.<br /><br />Today, over 200,000 Rwandan refugees remain in the Democratic Republic of Congo.<br /><br />Al Jazeera's Malcolm Webb reports from Goma.
