Safari to the most famous conservation park in the world, Serengeti! Camped by Ngorongoro Crater and got zero sleep due to an invasion of forest hogs. Seriously. I've had my dealings with the swine family in the past, in fact I've dated many of its members, but I've never once had face-to-face contact with a wild pig in Africa. Shortly thereafter about 50 wild buffalo decided to join the party.

Next came Gombe National Park - tracking chimpanzees in the same facility Jane Goodall established and did her research in 50 years ago. It was really interesting to learn about our closest relatives (98% the same DNA as humans).

The last night in Tanzania was spent attempting to cross the border into Burundi. Lonely Planet insisted there was no way to cross this border by water; we intended to prove them wrong, and we did! But definitely at a cost - we had to endure the worst eating and sleeping arrangements that either of us had even seen... guess that's the price you pay for innovation! :)
