Elite Kenyan police kill Al Shabaab suspects

Mombasa, Kenya - the scene of a deadly raid on Wednesday morning.<br/> <br />Elite paracommando units from Nairobi shot dead three suspected supporters of the Somali militant group al Shabaab.<br/> <br />Four police officers were seriously injured during the operation near the tourist beach resort, one of whom later died from his wounds in hospital.<br/> <br />Residents nearby said they heard heavy gunfire punctuated by at least two blasts, beginning at 2am and lasting until the early hours of the morning.<br/> <br />A number of suspects were arrested, and grenades, AK-47 rifles and ammunition were found at the scene.<br/> <br />Kenya has been hit by a series of grenade and gun attacks since it sent its troops into Somalia a year ago in pursuit of Islamist al Shabaab militants blamed for kidnapping Kenyans and Western tourists.
